Wedding Photography at the Alicia Hotel
A traditional wedding and on to the Alicia Hotel
I looked forward to a wonderful day! I was to shoot a wedding at The Alicia Hotel in Liverpool. It was a pleasure to be asked by David Stubbs, an award winning wedding photographer, to join him to capture digital images of Kate and Reg’s wedding celebrations at the Alicia Hotel. The ceremony was to be conducted at the Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation Bishop Eaton Kate had her bridal preparations at her parent’s house, helped by her sisters and cousins who were to be her bridesmaids, also her younger brother, one of the ushers.
Standing at the top of the stairs, Kate looked a sophisticated and elegant bride. With all the family gathered at the foot of the stairs, Kate gave them the first reveal of her beautiful white lace bridal gown. With an outstretched hand, Mother of the Bride greeted her daughter as she came down to them. Grandma was ready with her iPad camera focused and take the image, to be frozen digitally in photographic time.
Kate wedding car was a Jaguar limousine owned and chauffeured by a family friend and neighbour, to take them to the wedding nuptials, and later to the Best Western Alicia Hotel.
The Groom was waiting for his bride
Reg the Groom was at the church in good time, greeting all the wedding guests. His friends snapping candid images, some no doubt destined for social media on Instagram or a tagged Facebook cover photo. Colourful wedding outfits and hats and fascinators all on show. It was a joy to be asked to photograph such a beautiful wedding, which I shot in my unobtrusive documentary style. No posing or setting up shots, just relaxed, natural, wedding photography, to let the day flow without any interuption at all.
The congregation waited in anticipation for the bride to walk down the aisle of the architectural church. Kate arrived, carrying her floral bouquet of wedding flowers, her father at her side with his button hole matching the bridal bouquet, prepared to give his daughters hand in marriage to Reg.
After the ceremony the newlyweds signed the register as man and wife, and left the church with their marriage certificate , to a picture perfect summers day. They were chauffeured to the location of their wedding celebration venue, the Alicia hotel which is opposite Sefton Park, and one of the Best Western chain of hotels, in their home city of Liverpool.
The Alicia Hotel
Following tying the knot Kate and Reg arrived at the Alicia hotel. They were greeted with strawberry champagne by the Alicia hotel’s wedding coordinator and Head Waiter. The wedding guests gathered in the courtyard at the Alicia hotel, ready to greet the newlyweds. Confetti was thrown, champagne and canapés from the Alicia Hotel’s kitchen was the first order of the day.
The wedding breakfast and speeches, were full of special moments, and a pleasure to photograph. One such moment being a unique wedding toast, a miniature drink for all their wedding guests. Reg was given a football book on his beloved football team as a wedding present from his best man.
Later in the day, I followed the newlyweds on a romantic walk in Sefton park, situated opposite to The Alicia hotel, the happy couple just walked, chatted and kissed, a perfect opportunity to shoot them, in my relaxed, unobtrusive documentary style in the dappled light of the sun which was shining through the tree branches, of Sefton Park.
